Female Perspectives on Premature Ejaculation

We all lead busy lives. There are many times when our modern, hectic schedules get in the way of intimacy. However, regardless of our desire for efficiency when it comes to our sex lives, duration and mutual pleasure are paramount to overall sexual satisfaction. Some things end too soon, and when it comes to intercourse premature ejaculation has an impact on relationships and sexual satisfaction.

According to the International Society for Sexual Medicine, that are three major factors when it comes to premature ejaculation: timing, a sense that a man does not have control over ejaculation, and distress for couples. Research has historically focused on men’s experience with premature ejaculation (PE) and has found that is negatively affects men’s quality of life and relationships. However, little attention has been giving to women and their perspectives and sexual responses to PE. Here, we evaluate how females feel about PE.

Sexual Distress & Dissatisfaction

The research that has been conducted regarding women’s psychological, physical and interpersonal reactions to PE have shown that women tend to feel more sexual distress and dissatisfaction when their partner’s have PE. According to a study conducted by The Journal of Sexual Medicine, 40% of women said they had been ‘extremely’ or ‘much’ more satisfied by partners with men who did not have PE. In addition, researchers found that 2/3 of women began to have sexual difficulties with their partner with PE.

Duration & Orgasm

For many women duration of sexual intercourse is crucial. According this same study conducted by the Journal of Sexual Medicine, the ideal penetration time was an average of 23.2 minutes. For women, this 23 minutes is important because it gave them ample time to reach orgasm and also creates more time for intimacy. Without time, women lack the resources to create meaningful and versatile sex which can create more fulfilling sex.

A Man’s Concern with PE

When a man is preoccupied with his premature ejaculation and ignores a woman’s needs sexual frustration, aggravation, and distress can result. So, if a man is distracted by his PE, they are not only interfering with their own sexual function and mentality, but also impact a partner’s sexual well-being.
